My NFL fix!

My NFL Fix

By the time I post this blog, the NFL day would have begun and there are a lot of interesting stories out there that has bubbled even before the season began. Since I started my blogs kinda late, I am a few weeks into the season, but already there are a lot of very interesting stories.

Around my neck of the woods, people pull for either the Carolina Panthers or the Washington Redskins…personally I am a Saints fan because I was born in New Orleans, and I am a Raiders fan because I used to live in California. Plus I like John Madden!

But I gotta wonder what the heck Al Davis is doing. He reminds me of one of the characters from the Simpsons. How many of you remember the rich old mean man that owns the nuclear plant that Homer works at.

Yeah…Monty Burns….

And what is his catch phrase…. “Excellent”

As maybe in “Commitment to Excellence”? Probably not, but I just thought I’d throw that in there.

As much a big fan as I am for the Raiders, I think it was foolish for them to hire a guy like Art Shell, and NOT give him the authority to run the team. I have heard from many people that Al Davis wants to run the team, and hires coaches to pretty much be his puppets. Well…if he wants to coach so bad…why not come down to the field and COACH?

And it really is a shame because with the offensive weapons as QB (Russell) and a couple of excellent running backs in Michael Bush and Darren McFadden, this is a very, very powerful set to have behind the line…but not if the rest of the team is questionable. I honestly believe if Al Davis would just take his hands off the steering wheel of the Raider bus, they’d win a few games more than he’d think.

Now, what about the Green Bay Packers?

When I heard what the management did to Brett Farve, I personally wanted them to lose every game this year. I don’t say that against Green Bay fans because I remember one of the fans saying something that makes a lot of sense.

When they asked people about the Farve Fallout, many of the fans expressed deeply how much they love Brett Farve, but because the Packers were all they had, they had to be hopeful for whatever changes that were made. So Brett Farve or Aaron Rodgers, they had to pull for whomever was the starting QB.

It was all they had. Put that way, I can truly understand that and appreciate why fans in Green Bay had to pull for Aaron. And I wish nothing against Aaron either, he did everything he was supposed to do. I blame management for being such a butthead in this, because it seems apparent that the coach and the management wanted to “go in a new direction”.

And the odd thing is this; they fixed Brett Farve and the Jets so that their most beloved Packer would NEVER, EVER set foot in that stadium. They sold him completely away from the team and acted like they never knew him. But what happened once he set foot in New York? His jerseys sell like hotcakes and he embraced by New York like a long lost son.

Seeing all that money must have turned the stomachs of the Packer management, because they then offered him a lucrative deal to give Green Bay the EXCLUSIVE rights to his jerseys after he retires.

Pardon me…didn’t you just treat him like crap by getting him out of Green Bay, then turned around and locked and barred the doors Lambeau Field, then bought like 100 vicious wolves trained to attack any Brett Farve smelling person within 100 miles of Green Bay?

But now that management sees the dollar signs Brett is making, they want to act like he is “one of them” and are willing to roll the red carpet to him after he retires…provided he gives them exclusive rights to his jerseys.

Boy, you just can’t beat that American greed. Nothing like it in the world.

Anyway, lots of other stories are out there too, can the Cowboys make it happen this year? If they are healthy, I think they may be the team to beat. But often times I say that sometimes the best team does not make it to the Superbowl… it’s usually the healthiest. We have already seen major NFL players taken out of the season, which is ironic since a lot of the media was up there whining about there being too many preseason games.

It’s like somebody can actually predict when an injury happens. Nobody working for ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Fox Sports, NBC, CBS, ABC (well, I already said ESPN so that kinda goes with it) or any other sports entity can predict that playing 3 or 4 preseason games tends to increase the chance of injury. Tom Brady is a perfect example.

So this is my first blog of the NFL, before the games begin…let’s see how things unfold….
