A pause from Sports

And Today….History and Hope

I write this just before 12:30pm, on a historical day that man, country and world must bear witness to. Today the United States has elected a new President. And his name is Barack Obama.

Change is now here.

I am actually sharing this blog in cooperation with several other bloggers, from sports to politics to home businesses and even those in prison support groups. In the few years I have blogged, I have met numerous people around the world and from different walks of life. From a mother owning a fragrance business to a father who loves college football, to current students in college and people with loved ones in prison. From people in Canada, the United Kingdom, and here in the US. From Hispanics, Asians, Caucasians, African Americans, Native Americans and so many other nationalities.

Today we share this blog in agreement that we must now stand in agreement that the world can get better. Regardless of how you voted, once the new President is elected, we must now come together to realize that nothing changes for the better until we first believe that it CAN change.

For Americans that read my blogs, or those of my other friends who helped me on this blog, we know that there have been difficult times…and continue to be difficult times. It’s easy to talk about who should be #1 in the college polls, it is just a game. It’s easy to talk about how to make money in small business, it’s easy to talk about the difficulties of getting a college scholarship, it’s easy to talk about the problems of our environment, or about racial relations, the economy or protecting the nation from terrorist attacks. It’s easy to talk about how to find hope if your son, husband or boyfriend is in prison and you need a way to get through this.

It’s easy because it’s just reactions to problems.

The hard part is to solve them. That’s where we are now. We have a new leader, one that knows about the problems of our country. We have a new leader, one that understands the importance of making good friends with our neighbors in Canada, Mexico, the UK, Australia, Asia, Africa the Middle East and South America. These are not the best of times, but they don’t have to be the worst of times.

The 7 of us bloggers got together tonight and shared thoughts on the new future. Some of us voted for Obama, some voted for McCain. Some are white, some are black. One is from the UK, one in Canada, the rest here in the US. We write on different things but read each other’s blogs because we find interest in them. We don’t agree with everything written but we respect it. But greater than all those things, we are friends.

And we are human.

Today it is important that some of us bloggers unite today to let your readers know that despite our differences, we are still human, and we wish nothing but the very best for the United States as well as every other country in the world. As one of us bloggers said, “this is a time where Ohio State fans and Michigan fans come together, this is one time where fans of Texas and Oklahoma must come together, this is a time where fans of Florida and Florida State must unite and the fans of Southern Cal and UCLA must become friends…if just for a small moment of time because sports does not exceed humanity”.

It’s like another of us said, “today the people in all radio stations must become one, whether you work in a classical station, a jazz station, or whether your formats are Southern Gospel, Classic R&B, Classic Rock or Rap, the different tastes of our music does not change that we are human”.

And yet another of us said, “these are tough times for many of us and the fear of the economy affects us all, from the man making six figures in real estate to the wife making five figures in mail order, even down to the students who work at minimum wage while in college to pay for their education, we are all affected”.

And even one other, who said “the freedom of Americans and the future is not just based on who are NOW free, but those who WERE free, and lost their freedom to the judicial system. We cannot forget that even those in jails in prisons across the country are still Americans, and many return to society. If we count every man, woman and child important, we cannot forget the rehabilitation of the fallen, that they will return to society to better it, rather than disturb it”.

We put our beliefs together in this blog to encourage you who read this to take this opportunity to believe in a better future, not to fear what is to come. Each one of us as bloggers has had obstacles in our lives, as I am sure you have as well, but today, we must look for positive change. For that reason, we seven bloggers place our belief in our new President. We know it won’t be easy, and we know it won’t be without criticism, but what we DO believe is that things have to change.

The country has to change…the world must change…for the better. Not as the status quo, because a stagnant people is a non productive one, regardless of which country you come from. Some of us bloggers have children, and we want them to see better days, some of us are single, but still desire better days. Some of us desire to be able to afford a new home, or a new car, or money to pay our bills. Blogging is cool, but we would love to do better.

Some have greater goals of traveling to some of those beautiful cities around the world, or enjoying the finer things of life with the ones we love. Yet still there are those who lost their loved ones to incarceration, and miss them dearly, desiring only to be with them.

We may be different bloggers but today we believe in a few truths. One is the fact that we have a new President, and we believe that he will do his best to help the United States…the second is that we also believe in God, that He will look over our new leader.

Congratulations President Barack Obama. God Bless the USA.
